Hey! My name is Cary, and I'm pretty much brand new to the whole webcomic thing but I'm trying really hard to get up to speed, so be gentle with me huh? :)

Ok, I have a website based on the WP backbone, or whatever you call it. I use a WP log in, if that matters. What I'm trying to do is get a viable webcomic running on that website. I've had my web host person install and activate the WP theme "webcomic", and I also asked her to install and activate stripshow.

When she did so, strip show gave her a fatal error. Is that due to the installation of the webcomic plug in do you think? I've since asked her to uninstall the webcomic plugin and try reinstalling strip show, but she hasn't gottan back to me yet.

Now then, a couple of questions. First, with strip show I should be able to use my existing website theme, as it's a custom thing, and still have the functions, navigation and all the rest for the webcomic, yeah? I think that's right from your blog posts but I wanted to check.

Also, could this all be a version issue? I'm using the newest version of WP, 2.9.2 and she installed the newest version of the strip show.

Anyway, cool thing you have going here! I hope I can get all this to work so I can show it off!

thanks

Cary

Hmmm… well, a couple of things come to mind. "Webcomic" is another plugin, and does much the same thing stripShow does, in different ways. There's a theme for Webcomic, called Inkblot, but no theme that I know of called "Webcomic."

If it's the Webcomic plugin that you've got installed, then there could well be a conflict. I haven't tried enabling stripShow on an installation that has Webcomic installed, since they do the same thing… I'll test it out and see if I get an error.

Oh, and yes. With stripShow 2.5, the AutoComic feature should allow you to insert the comic and a comic sidebar (which can include navigation buttons, storyline dropdown, calendar, etc) into nearly any theme. Right now, 2.5 is out as a beta, and should be final within a couple of weeks.

Whew. Ok thanks for the replies by the way! We turned off webcomic the plug in and turned on strip show, and life's good, at least for the not getting the fatal error anymore. yay!

Now then, I'm in the dashboard, I want to add a new comic. Tried that, and I'm having trouble. It accepted the upload of the comic, and is even showing it in the comic preview pane, but when I publish I get nada. I know I've gotta be missing something silly and easy but I can't for the life of me find out where it is!

Well, let's take it piece by piece. When you go to your index page after publishing the comic, what do you see? Is the content of the post there, just not the comic? Break it down a bit.

While I don't maintain stripShow for a living, I wouldn't say no to a little donation, if you think the plugin is worth it...
